COURCHEVEL / LES TROIS VALLEES

At the heart of the Alps, Courchevel 1850, Courchevel Moriond, Courchevel Village, Courchevel Les Praz and La Tania are connected by ski lifts or free shuttle buses to form a single ski-in / ski-out resort. there are 600 km of sopes and 166 lifts. Only in Courchevel, slopes comprise 150 km of runs, of which 23 are green, 35 blue, 32 red and 10 black.

HOW TO GET TO COURCHEVEL

BY PLANE

It is very comfortable to fly to the mountain region. Connections are easy and if you fly from another country, your bags will arrive checked at the final destination, which makes the trip very easy. The closest airports are:

Lyon-St. Exúpery is 178 km away from Courchevel 1300 Le Praz. About 2 hours drive.

Geneva airport also 132 kms from Courchevel 1300 Le Praz. The same driving times as from Lyon even though the distance is shorter.

 

Both airports have car rental companies inside the airport, and all types transfer services to the mountain.

Once you are in Lyon or Geneva, you can get to Courchevel in several ways:

PRIVATE TRANSFER

It is the most comfortable way to get to your hotel / apartment in Courchevel. It’s called “door to door”. The price is around € 350- €400 each way.

BUS

By bus is obviously less expensive than a private transfer. Buses depart from both Lyon and Geneva airports.

They have specific departure times.

Arrival is at Moutiers and from there you take another bus that will take you to your station. It’s practical only for those who travel with few pieces of luggage and is willing to wait for some time at different points on your way to the destination.

When you arrive in your resort (Courchevel 1300 -Le Praz. Courchevel Village, Courchevel 1650 -Moriond-, or Courchevel 1850), you will need a local taxi to drive to your hotel, unless it is really within walking distance of the bus stop.

CAR RENTAL

All the popular rental companies have offices at both airports.
Advantages: you have a car during all your stay in case you want to move around. Depending on the number of days you are at the resort, it will cost you considerably less than a private transfer.
Disadvantages: you have to be clear about where you are going to park your car. It's not easy to get a free parking free, although there are; but some only allow you to park for an hour. There are many paid parking garages.

If you rent in Lyon you avoid the compulsory purchase of the sticker to circulate on Swiss motorways that costs € 50

If you rent on the Swiss side of the Geneva airport you can rest assured that your car will have snow tires, since under Swiss law it’s mandatory during winter.  Also, the pre-paid sticker to drive in swiss motorways is included in the rental.

If you rent on the French side of the airport the snow tires will depend on availability and possibly with an increase in price. I recommend that you make sure. Sometimes they are essential.

The total cost of tolls up to Courchevel (in both cases) is € 24 each way

We know that cars aren't great for the environment but their carbon footprint is much lower than that of planes with studies suggesting that flights emit around 133g of carbon dioxide per person while a diesel car carrying four passengers emits only 43gr per person.

 

TRAIN

 

Lyon has the TGV station linked to the airport, so you can take the train to Moutiers, the town at the edge of the mountains, and from there to your resort.

 

TGV Train runs several days a week during the winter season with one train that gets directly to Moutiers without having to change trains at Chambèry.

I love traveling by train. I would like to take the Spanish train Renfe from Barcelona directly to Lyon one day


How to move around in Courchevel

The navette gratuite, is a free bus and is always available. Leave your vehicle at one of the local car parks and move around on foot or using this great network of free shuttle buses that'll take you to the foot of the slopes in no time. SKI PASSES

Courchevel offers different prices for ski passes.

 

Firstly, you’ll find:

 

SkiPasses only for skiing in the valley of Courchevel, that is a bigger than most ski resorts.

 

SkiPasses for the Three Valleys that open to you the biggest skiable area anywhere in the world. It’s Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens connected by lifts to one another.

 

If you are skier it is worth buying a pass for the Three Valleys since the difference in price is not significant and I am convinced that at least one day you will want to venture further away, but, if you have young children that plan to take to the ski school, probably a Courchevel only pass is enough for them.

IMPROVING YOUR SKILLS

We work with ESF 1850, which has competitive prices compared to other schools, and with whom we also maintain a preferred relationship.

We super recommend going to the Three valleys with an instructor. You will enjoy more and without a doubt you will get know many more trails. But depending on the season, it might not be possible to hire an instructor for just one day. Contact us for details.

SKI EQUIPMENT

 

 

Prices for rentals are more or less similar in all ski shops. We recommend renting at the store closest to your hotel / apartment. Many of them will store your skis overnight in case you don't have space in your place.

 

 

 

ONLINE equipment rental

 

Ski Set (among others) offers on its website the rental of equipment before arrival at a discounted price. We do it because it works perfectly. You are not tied to the chosen boot size; if you arrive the boot size doesn’t  fit they simply give you another.

Hotel or apartment??

 

A hotel is for those who want to be pampered for from the moment they arrive. Almost all of the hotels in Courchevel include breakfast and many of them have dinner as part of the package.

 

It’s an advantage not to have to make the beds, clean up and wash the dishes. It is also great to have dinner ready when hungry. Knowing that the restaurant is only a few flights of stairs away is something anyone wishes for, particularly if traveling with children.

 

An apartment or a chalet works for people who like more privacy. They prepare their own meals, or if they are staying in a luxury chalet they will probably have their personal chef.

Also buying your own food is really very nice and part of the experience. There is a  weekly street market as well local markets such as Sherpas, Carrefour Montaigne **; and there is also the Super U in Aix les Bains at the last turn before starting to climb to your resort, it’s a hyper market that has everything.

 

** in the local markets they deliver your groceries to your place at no charge.

 

There are also gourmet takeout places where you can buy anything from fancy meals to a roasted chicken and  to take it  back to your apartment.

 

LOCATION: In the village or  in the mountain?

 

 

The mountains are quieter and you really get the feel of mountain life. To get there, you will surely need your hotel's private shuttle, the free shuttle bus from the station or your own car. Walking to your hotel becomes more than just a walk, a little exercise.

 

 

If you choose to stay in the town, you obviously have everything more at hand. In Courchevel 1650 Moriond,  by the main street, the one that continues climbing up to Courchevel 1850 is La Conciergerie,

At the entrance of the village of 1850, on the left hand side, next to Carrefour Montagne market there is another self service laundry.

 

 

LAC DE LA ROSIERE

 

 

This is a special and different. You feel that you are leaving the sports environment and getting deeper into nature. If there is a lot of snow, there are dog sleds that take you to the lake.

The lake is stunning and it is a great spot for selfies on a sunny day.
